The headquarters of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society in Plymouth MA performed a finish analysis as part of the reinterpretation of the entrance hall of Hedge House. It revealed that the two doors in this space were originally faux wood grained. While graining survived on the opposite side of one of the doors, it was of a later period. An earlier graining sample survived in an adjoining room, serving to guide this historic wood finish restoration.
The first task was to conserve the surviving graining with a removable varnish coating. When this was completed, we recreated the earlier graining pattern on the two entrance hall doors, restoring them to their original appearance.
