HEDGE HOUSE MUSEUM - FAUX WOOD GRAIN
Plymouth, Massachusetts
Conservation, Decorative Paint, Faux Wood Grain, Restoration, Finish Analysis

As part of the re-interpretation of the entrance hall of Hedge House, the headquarters of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society in Plymouth MA, finish analysis revealed that the two doors in this space were originally faux wood grained.  While graining survived on the opposite side of one of the doors, it was of a later period.  An earlier graining sample survived in an adjoining room.

The first task was to conserve the surviving graining  with a removable varnish coating.  When this was completed we re-created the earlier graining pattern on the two entrance hall doors, restoring them to their original appearance.
