BREAKERS INTERIOR DOORS
Newport, Rhode Island
Wood Finish Conservation, Wood Door Restoration, Wood Finish Cleaning

The finish on the large, heavy mahogany doors connecting the first floor rooms of the Breakers had become crazed and dull and needed conservation after over a hundred years of use.  Using a hydraulic table, each door was carefully removed from its hinges and transported to the shop.  Since the doors had a thick finish, it was possible to remove the crazing and resstore the doors without going through the finish.  After each surface had become smooth, they were cleaned, then polished and given coats of brown wax.
